Monte Rei - what to do in the evening

Hi, a group of golfers are going to spend three nights at Monte Rei in October. I've been tasked to come up with ideas for what to do in the evenings!! I've explained to everyone it's pretty remote but these guys are keen to do something lively (last years venue was Vale do Lobo, which set an entertainment standard!!).
We will need to be within taxi range of likely venues, so any ideas please?
Thanks
Andy

Monte Rei is in Portugal.

Perhaps your post should be transferred there.
It is certainly no where near entertainment centres comparable with the Villamoura or val da lobo
Tavira is the nearest town , October is not the busiest time.
There is a Casino in Monte Gordon closer to the Spanish border.

I envy you playing what is one of the best and most expensive courses in the Algarve.

Thanks EMR, I am aware it's in Portugal but it is so much closer to Ayamonte than it is to the major golf areas of Portugal I thought there was more chance of some useful input but I'll try the Portugal thread as well. Montegordo was the only place I could think of but was hoping I'd missed a trick:).
I'm certainly looking forward to playing there again, just have to bring my A game (if I can find it:))

if you are used to Vale do Lobo; you will not find that in eastern Algarve as this part of the Algarve is more quiet with more natural nature instead of busy high quality shops and restaurants in a created designer environment...

What have I started!:). I've been coming to Costa Esuri since it was just barren ground, so am familiar with what makes it so much more enjoyable than VDL etc. I was just hoping someone may have had some insight that I have missed, as I usually come with my wife and have never looked for "nightlife" other than a decent restaurant or tapas bar.

no worries in the 90s i was living and working around that area as most of my clients were based in VdL, QdL, Almancil etc ;)

in that time i spend most of the time on the west coast when not working

i'm glad too being in CE :-D

The Casino at Monte Gordo has already been mentioned
There is a nightclub on the poligono in Ayamonte which opens late until the small hours - not been myself but makes plenty of noise and light (which is probably why it's on the poligono)
Otherwise the area is probably better know for its food and drink and of course the beaches than the high life.

I think the young bloods going with us are just going to have to put up with a few drinks with the old boys and then a cup of cocoa!:);

If you are like us the conversation will focus on just how good your game could have been if only.!!

Ive rented one of their villas, its a very nice place.

1, you will be golfing from about 11am, because it takes that long to deal with breakfast, its the most incredible ive seen anywhere -- ANYWHERE, you'll find out :-). Oh and they dont understand the words stop or enough...

2, Just head to the coast, its only 15 mins in a car, plenty of small local resorts in portugal to enjoy an evening. There honestly i found there isnt much lively to do, apart from eating and drinking, but that and golf are all you need ? Check - there might be some festival while you are there?

Thanks for the culinary advice, sounds great. We are teeing off around midday each day so a leisurely and large breakfast sounds perfect. As one of the "elders" I am more than happy with good food, drink and lively conversation. I'll let the youngsters try to find nightlife - with a bit of luck they will be hungover and struggle to post decent scores:}

If you want good food give Restaurante A Chamin in Altura a visit it has many Michelin recommendations.

Whilst I was particularly intrigued by their presentation of gazpacho they also do a wide variety of excellent food

Closed Tuesdays

If you look through the 'Restaurants' thread in Ayamonte Club sub-forum you will find lots and lots of advice and recommendations for resto in East Algarve and West Spain

I recall going there last year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I use it all the time as it's a really good source of info.....especially Jon Bxl who seems to have visited every resto in the area for long lunches:)
