Re: Money or Easier life in the Sun ?
A Money question....
Has anybody tried to open an account in the UK while non resident, yep you have to jump through a few hoops.
I have never tried to open a childrens account but now I would like to. Every online application has heart failure if you are not uk resident. It seems offshore banks dont have childrens accounts? Anybody have any recommendations for a bank that deals with non uk residents.

I'm afraid a UK address alone will not be of much use. They ask for at least two pieces of identification (with your name and UK address you've registered with them) and you can take your pick from a variety of either wage slips, P60's, council tax payments, etc.
I tried putting my sons name on one of my UK bank accounts and since he's in Uni in Greece and had no such documentation, he was not accepted.
They have become very strict because of money laundering issues.

Yes, it is a childs account but it has to be opened in the name of a parent. it is the parent that has to show proof. However I think the idea of using Grandads house is not a bad one. Thanks for the advice. I really think the offshore banks are missing a niche here.
