Hi All,

I am moving to the Costa Del Sol shortly and have been looking on the internet regarding mobile phones. Of course the main players come up - Movistar, Vodafone, Orange but I saw a company called 2020tel who seemed to be offering quite a good package which included unlimited internet. They also seem to offer very cheap rates to UK. My question is does anyone use 2020tel and what do they think and are there any other alternatives that provide unlimited internet. Many thanks

I use them - yes, 3G or you can hook upto wifi wherever you can get it


good coverage

read the small print though - we thought it was 14€ a month & it turned out be 28€ when the 14€ 'free' internet was added

When you say "free" internet do you mean the 14€ the charge for the minimum call spend? Does that mean that if I spend 10€ on calls I would still be charged 14€?

yes that was it - not the 'free' internet

the 14€ minimum call spend is exactly that - even if you make no calls at all you pay 14€

if you go to a Phone House, they have all the brands in one place.
Tuenti mobile seems pretty cheap.

Fadingstarlight - Thank you for your reply. I have had a look at the tuenti tariff and it does look good. I think however for my requirements I am going to go with 2020tel. They are giving unlimited internet and the international calls are very cheap especially to mobiles and also the connection fee.

If you call people with cell phones, you can get VOYPI or VIBER on your phone, they are free apps and it lets u call people who have downloaded the app too for free. I call my friends in Canada all the time. ALL FREE, no connection fee either.

Take a look at simyo.es.

I've recently managed to get Vodafone out of my life and signed up for a 6.95 euros plus IVA deal with simyo.es. This gives me a number of minutes phone time (maybe 500 - can't remember) and 650mb monthly. When I use all that up then very competitive tariffs are applied.

While it's a contract, you can opt out at any time.

There's also a PAYG option and free calls between simyo users (call establishment charge applies).

You'll need a 'free' phone so that your sim card will work.

I did it all online, no hassle (except myriad calls from Vodafone trying to entice me to stay), the card arrived, followed by instruction texts, then swapped it over on the appointed day. I was very impressed and would happily recommend them to anyone.

I've calculated that these contracts that give you a fandabbydoozy phone when you sign up for a 2 year contract are a total rip off. Just google 'telefonos libres', buy one and remain independent of the mainstream operators.

Those same mainstream operators have lost 10s of thousands of punters in recent times....serves them right IMHO!

Telefonica (don't laugh) are getting in on this market too with their new app (starting with iPhone and Android to follow) tu_me It's supposed to be quite advanced technically, but I suppose you'd only tell the difference if you'd used the different VoIP systems.

It still seems incredible to me that we'll soon be able to call each other on mobiles in other countries for free.

We use Simyo.es too. We have them for PAYG. Very easy to set up online and very good rates. Texts to UK about 17c which includes tax. We have found them to be very reliable so far and you can top up easily online.

my daughter uses 'whatsapp' to 'talk' to her friends in Germany - well - it's more like texting - but it's still free :D
