Mobile Homes

Looking at the option of buying a mobile home in Spain. Anyone got one? If so any info on pros and cons would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Mobile Homes

A friend lives in one.
They can get very hot in summer and cold in winter unless you have efficient heating and cooling.
You must research the legality etc of your site - some are not strictly permanent and you could find yourself being evicted after a few years.
Check out the availability of phone line/internet if this is important to you - my friend had to wait over 2 years to get a phone line and even now it's still not working correctly.
Make sure that the site owners aren't "reselling" electricity to you at an inflated price.
Some sites won't allow pets, or have restrictions so check that too if important. If it's to be a permanent home for you find out how many other permanent residents there are on the site - many people use them only as holiday homes and so you may find yourself on a virtually deserted site for some months of the year (usually height of summer and Xmas!).
There are many available to rent, why not try one out first?

 My husband and I imported a mobile home to Chiclana from Norfolk so that we could be comfortable and it has been a godsend.. We are renovating our old finca on a 1200metre plot and the mobile home is there. We have installed hot/cold aircon and it is double glazed and central heated. It is approx 35 x 12 and is perfect for us. When our house is finished we we be renting it out. If you are thinking of buying one it is important that you assess your needs, where it will be situated and what servicesyou have available. Hope this has helped but if you need any further info you can send me a private message:blink:

Did you need any kind of permission to put a caravan on your land?

Ask the local council.
There was a program on tv about someone putting a wood chalet on his land, thinking it was classed as mobile (shed)
He ended up with huge fines etc for no planning permission.
So check first before you do anything.

Thanks. We intend to go over shortly and rent for a few months while looking round and making a buying decision. Renting a mobile is a good idea.

Also, remember that although the prices are cheaper than a house, you do ahve to pay ground rent, and that is usually between €1000 and €3000 a year, and you are at the mercy of the owner of the land, there has already been one mobile home park here closed down, and residents denied access to their own mobile homes because of some infringement by the owner.

Just be very careful and check at the relevant town hall. To my knowledge, residential occupation is not allowed on holiday sites, and authorised residential mobile home parks are rare,(a great many are illegal). Some town halls will consider even a towing caravan as permanent if you live in it so the same rules may apply regarding minimum plot size as apply to houses. Just check ,and get the answer in writing.

I agree be very careful a new decree(?) came out at the end of June/July where caravan owners had put in hard wood floors in their awnings and put in kitchens etc etc and this is now not allowed on holiday sites. As I understand it you can continue to do this if you are on a private site. There have certainly been articles about this in the Costa Blanca News.
