missing form 600 D - proof of tax paid

I purchased my property 3 years ago, having paid purchase tax etc. I have now received a letter from the tax office asking for forms 600 D and 600 L which i do not have. I have been informed that these forms relate to proof of purchase tax paid. I cannot get hold of my agent to see if he still has copies. The tax office has not said that the tax is unpaid, just that they want copies of these forms (so they might well have lost them). Is there anywhere else that i might be able to get copies?

Have you checked that they are not with the Escritura - ours are stapled at the back of this. Did you use an Abogado?

I'm not sure why the agent would have them as he doesn't deal with tax (or shouldn't). I have a friend who sold his brother's flat when he passed away suddenly, cutting a long story short, the agent pocketed the tax money and so it had to be paid twice!

the agent took the tax to pay into the bank on our behalf. He was looking after a lot of our paperwork - insurance policies etc etc

Just out of interest, if purchase tax is not paid when a property is purchased, wouldnt the authorities come looking quite quickly ?. We purchased 3 years ago and no-one chased us so i assume (hope) that the agent did pay the purchase tax on our behalf. We used to meet with him quite often for a couple of years after the purchase which hopefully suggests that he did pay the tax. Seeing an assessor Monday who, i hope, will be able to check in whatever the appropriate place is, whether or not the tax was paid. It will be a rather nervous weekend though
