Is there a National Minimum Wage in Spain like there is for the UK? If so, how much is it?

Wow...........when I relocate to Spain next year then it's best that I try to work for my current UK employer but from home in Spain. Not that I am on the UK minimum wage - far from it, but I was interested to know!

Most industries have what are called "Convenios" these are agreements for minimum rates, hours of work, holidays etc. They vary depending on trade and province.

Re: Minimum wage

The government has announced a 5.5 per cent increase in the minimum wage from January 1, bringing it to 570.60 euros a month. That means 29.70 euros more per month for minimum-wage workers.

It is the third increase in as many years, with a cumulative three-year jump of 23.9 per cent. A similar 30-euro bump is expected in 2008 to bring the wage up to the administration’s promised 600 euros.

Remember that there are 14 payments a year so the annual figure is now just under €8000.

Most people we knew who were working the bars/cafe's and villa cleaning were earning 6 euro an hour. Whether that was declared or not......
