Thats just the DM dredging up old stories. Its a well known problem and most doctors in Spain are well aware of it.

Nolotil is on my medical record as an allergen.

Doctors may be but a frightening number of actual care givers seem not to be.

Yes it's an old story and the Guardian regurgitated it just last week.

It's come to the fore again due to the medical translator Cristina Garcia taking action against Spanish health authorities and giving interviews to anyone that will speak to her.
This publicity can't be a bad thing for her campaign.

What do you mean by a "care giver"'? It is a prescription only drug.

I can only repeat that many doctors either don't know about this or simply ignore it!

I went in for heart surgery and was prescribed it very recently.

Is there a recommended alternative to metamizole?

Re: Metamizole

They will prescribe paracetamol or tramadol/paracetamol for more severe pain.

From my experience the medics are well aware of the problem, but need reminding that you may be affected.

I was prescribed metamizole for many years for back pain before the problem became known. Fortunately blood analyses over that period never showned low white cells counts.
