Merkel and Cameron.
I watched the news conference from Berlin today, and though I'm not an expert on body language, it was obvious that far from being good friends, they patently don't even like each other.
The spectacle of the Old Etonian Eurosceptic with his begging bowl, and the chubby Hausfrau, a former communist from East Germany and now the most powerful lady in Europe made me laugh. While Cameron intently stared at Merkel, she never looked in his direction and frequently used the Spanish dismissive arm motion as though flicking away an insect. I don't know what's going to happen next, I just pray for the pound going up, but to suggest that we are good friends with Germany is a myth. |

One newspaper today likened Cameron to Neville chamberlain...I fear they may be right:(

Re: Merkel and Cameron.
Germany has a foreign debt to GDP ratio of 176%, it owes us over £140 billion, it has over £4 trillion Euros worth of debt itself.... People need to stop thinking that Germany is this perfect country, one that has shown the world how to manage its economy, its not.
Its an interesting fact that Italy has one of the largest gold reserves in the world, but because its all held within the European Banks as part of their Euro commitment they cant touch a penny of it to help bail them out. |
Re: Merkel and Cameron.
And yet again I say, I don't think anone has a sodding clue as to what is going on or what we can do to stop it.
I still think we sould have a campaign to wipe all sovereign debt now. |
Re: Merkel and Cameron.
And they're both Conservatives. And tomorrow Spain will get a Conservative government. Do the Socialists and Liberals disappear down a drain in times of trouble?
I think people will tolerate the dreamers and inept during the good times when it doesn't really matter who runs the country, but when austerity is needed to get a country back on track they turn to the upper classes, the people who know better. Benefits get reigned back, house prices fall, people get evicted if they don't pay up (even if they can't), and the national flags start fluttering again. We've got the Dunkirk spirit, the Germans remember when they couldn't even go to work on an egg (the few chickens who survived the war didn't live long enough), and the Spanish have started to grow things on their fincas again. The upper classes will sort it, they're trained to lead us, it's their destiny. |

Just cos most of it ends up in their own pockets,....well I suppose they're entitled to look on it as their own little reward .;) :sunglasses: |

Yes, nicely put. Doesn't that work on the trickle down theory? The idea that if you hose down the people at the top with huge amounts of money, some of that will eventually trickle down to those at the bottom.

Perhaps they should form a union. Horses now,..thats a totally different kettle of fish. Surely you've seen all these Range Rovers and fancy luxurious boxes running the roads, "Horses on Board" ! Stand to one side and tip your cap ! Not too much mention of cows, sheep, pigs or especially spuggies, I'm afraid. Seems they go unnoticed, buried in deep shit at the very bottom of the pile.:( |

Antibiotics three times a day, and painkillers to hand. One useful trick. When being prescribed antibiotics, ask for an extra day's supply and double the dose on the first day. If you take the prescribed dose, it will take a day or so before the levels in your body build up to the level needed to start hitting the basterial swine. I got that handy hint forom a bacteriologist. |

I got that handy hint forom a bacteriologist. My dentist, a money-grabbing, highly qualified Scouser with no heart, took it from me and quoted me 900 Euros for a crown, or 250 Euros for a 'plate'. I've now got a gap, which doesn't bother me too much, and I'm debating whether vanity will make me spend a grand to fill it, I'm not having a plate. The Scouser kept the gold stint and I didn't realise it until after I left. I know Scousers usually vote Labour, but this one's got a posh Mercedes parked outside his surgery so he might be an exception. |

Ouch. Was that a bridge?
18 years ago, around two years after it was fitted, I got involved in an afternoon drinking session in Benidorm, in the company of two stunning ladies, one who looked Marilyn Monroe and owned the bar we were in, and one who looked like Rita Hayworth and owned a leather shop next door. To my horror, my tooth started to come out. I stopped smiling and arranged to meet both ladies in the evening. On my way home I bought a tube of super glue. With some trepidation I applied it to my loose tooth and went to meet the ladies in the evening. The super glue lasted 18 years. I got a few abscesses along the way, but that evening with Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth made it all worthwhile. |

I've got no idea, Bil. It was a false top part cemented into the root of the tooth which was still there.

I've got a mate who superglues his crown back on every so often. Doesn't seem to give him a problem. Mind you I have to drive him to the doctor every now and then to get his meds. He buys beer on the way, the doctor tells him to.

Re: Merkel and Cameron.
This article explains the Spanish situation far better than I ever could:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011...nt-euro-crisis I struggle to understand the Indignado movement, why do people sit around quietly to protest? Everywhere else they smash up things to show their anger. It seems Spanish people are bewildered by what is happening to them, as evidenced by the 60-year old women on a brick laying course! |

The article says that they have to find another 41bn euros of savings. Anybody any idea where the savings can be made?
