Their yellow chickens are OK.

Also, their stewing beef is very good - very lean with all the gristle and sinews removed.

Fussy bu***rs;)

Been buying all sorts of meat and veg from supermarkets for the last 40 years - no problems so far.

It's what you do with it that matters...

Re: Mercadona Meat

rarely buy meat from Mercadona as my local butcher charges €1.99 per kilo for whole chickens, average weight is around 2-2.5kg and they cut it into pieces at no extra charge. Mercadona can't compete on price.

was in a town about 15k the other side of Granada and the butcher there charges €2.50 per kilo and an extra 60c IIRC for cutting of his chickens.

even the "fatty" pork is less fatty than the stuff we used to get from Tesco, little water comes out when frying so needs a bit of olive oil in the fry pan.
upset one of the women serving when I asked for solomillo to be minced for stuffing into whole peppers but there was no fat so excellent meal.

In the UK I would buy beef skirt for braising/stewing. What is the equivalent in Spain?

When it comes to any chops, pork or lamb, the butchers round here always hold up fingers to us expats to indicate how thick to cut, ie 1 finger width for thin or 2 finger width for a nice thick one like in the UK. Notice they are not already cut, they take them from the larger pice as and when you ask.

CHULETON- BEEF
CHULETA- CHOP

Hope it helps

If he holds up his fingers and there are only two, he's not a very good butcher.

Thanks I was under the impression Chuleton meant big chop and Chuleta is the thinly cut ones, I will research more but I do appreciate your anology of using the fingers, I will buy some tomorrow and post back, excited ;)

Did I say they came from Lidl?

Read the thread title - Mercadona Meat should give you a clue.

so do Mercadona and a couple of others

Alcampo have special bulks of chicken wings and leg quarters which are exceedingly good value and over the past year or so have had no problems with them.
however, their literature said they had a cut of pork that was on special offer but nothing in stock - either a dud deal or very popular.
