I don't remember ever having a kettle in a room in any country outside the UK
You are expected to take a drink up with you.
The room I had in Milan was so small I don't think there was a flat surface to write postcards letalone hold a kettle and a tray of cups and mixings.

Any one else ??

They're not common, no. Occasionally I see hotels on booking.com that offer them, but not often. It's one reason why we prefer to book an apartment if we can, as well as the extra space I like to be able to have a coffee when I get up in the morning before getting dressed, without having to either go down to the hotel restaurant or wait for room service to bring it. Often the prices are just as good as for a hotel, we've just booked a penthouse apartment with terrace in the centre of Valencia for a stay in June, €90 per night.

The melia is on the sea front in alicante and i would think the time from alicante airport to the sea front is about twenty minutes or so.

We've lunched several times at the melia in benidorm and the quality of the restaurant was excellent. Have a great time.
