Marriage certificate validation .

Hello,

My wife and I are still trying to plough through the bureaucracy. She is not working in Spain, but I am.

In order to get her NIE we need to provide our marriage certificate. Which we did, except we got married in Iceland and we were told that its not legal in Spain.

We think they said we need to go to the Icelandic embassy to get it validated.

Is this correct? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Your Icelandic marriage should be recognised in Spain. What they probably mean is that you need an Apostille for your marriage certificate which would be done by the Icelandic government to confirm it is a legitimate document.

Iceland doesn't have an embassy in Madrid - Spain is covered by the Icelandic Embassy in Paris. I would email either Paris or your local honorary consulate and ask their advice on how to do this.
