Marrakesh visit

hi, I have just searched this forum for tips on a forthcoming trip to Marrakesh. Anyone got any recent experiences? We are there for a week or so & plan to do some trips to Casablanca, Fez plus some walking tours within Marrakesh.

Thanks in advance

When you go to Casablanca the only thing worth seeing is the new Mosque - which is quite the most amazing building I have ever seen and, unlike other mosques in Morocco, you are allowed in.

The mausoleum at Rabat is worth seeing and certainly don't miss Fez.

When you are in Marrakesh a visit to Chez Ali is worth going to. I wouldn't go near most of the "tourist" traps but this one is an exception.

I wouldn't get to excited about Rabat saying that the Medina is worth visiting for an hour or so, probable no better or worse than any of the others.
One tip worth remembering, if you like a glass of wine or two ,try El Presidente
It's Morocco's finest ,drinkable & cheap

Went to Fez last October and thought it was great. Can recommend Pension Sekaya if you want to stay in Fez, also Cafe Clock to eat at. Don't bother with the Ville Nouvelle, just explore within the Medina walls.

We had an interesting trip to Marrakesh. There is lots to see, but not a lot to do. I would recomend the safari trip into the mountains.

Be warned you may find it a bit of a culture shock.

The Medina of Fez is amazing and I have definetely been shocked "culturally".

The abuse of donkeys for transport (heavily overloaded), the interest the locals take into you (negative & positive), the prostitutes coming up to you, the way the medina has been preserved, the trainride from Tangiers to Fez, the taxi (Citröen Visa), getting held up by the "Tourist Police" (Scam!), the dodgy hotel (cheap) with the rusty shower, The food (loved it!).

As said, NOT Kansas. :)

I had never seen so many Porsche Cayennes, or armed guards at the gates of private residences before I visited Marrakesh:eek:.

If you want to avoid being continuously hassled hire a government appointed guide. Or if when people stop you and ask you where you're from just answer "Suomi". Finnish is the only language they can't speak! Oh and someone will try to pick your pocket.

Thanks ever so much for the posts on Marrakesh. Those & an internet trawl have given us loads of ideas.
