Marble kitchen worktop
 

I am thinking of changing my granite kitchen worktop for a marble one.
Has anybody had any experience with white/ grey marble worktop ? Do they stain easily or do they take on a yellow appearance after a few years ?

We have a marble work top and it certainly stains, even after treatment a few years later it needs doing again.
Why not go for Silstone, huge range of colours and definetly stain resistant.

We have marble and I would say that it has NOT stained nor gone yellow in 9 years!

If it is properly finished then you should not have a problem.

Marble is relatively soft, and porous. It looks pretty, but I would not want it for a kitchen counter surface.

Pulaski is correct, drop something on it, greasy marks etc, etc. Worktops take a lot of bashing and cleaning. We have marble floors throughout the house and they're a nightmare!

My parents-in-law had a marble top table in the kitchen for eating off. I now have it in the garage. It's at least 30 years old and certainly hasn't changed colour.
However, we also considered a marble kitchen work-top when we had our house renovated 10 years ago and we were advised against marble because of the stains it can accrue. So we had Silestone and it's fine. Looks like marble and cleans easily.

If this truly was the case, then why do a lot of high-end kitchens in Spain have marble counter tops?

It MUST be properly finished (sealed) as I stated before, then it is NOT porous.

In my experience most people who have "high end" kitchens, use them for showing off, not for cooking. And those that do use them for cooking can afford to have the counters ripped out and replaced when they get stained or damaged.

Why install a product that requires care, special treatment, and maintenence when "no care" alternatives exist? ..... Unless you're made of money and/or don't use your kitchen much.

We have granite too. Used in a kitchen for a Casa Rural which has been opened since 2000, with no problems.

Granite is certainly more durable, but we have had no issues.

My granite worktop is approx. 11 years old, it looks dull , seems to have gone considerably darker and looks grubby round the edges , without replacing it has anybody got any suggestions how to bring it back to life, I've tried the usual granite cleaners and nothing seems to work. :(

It is possible to clean and seal granite (and marble). Although, it can be difficult to remove staining.

I would suggest you look for a specialist company. If you state where you are at then a.n.other will possibly be able to recommend.

I'm on the Costa Tropical in Almunecar.. If anybody knows a company that can restore granite I will be grateful.
