Mammogram

I was just wondering how easy it is to get a mammogram in Spain.

I live in Benissa in the Alicante region. I am not in the Spanish healthcare system so would have to pay it think.

Can anyone tell me where I should look for this service and how much it might cost

I can't say how much you'd need to pay if anything at all but try going to your local docs and asking, I had my mammogram done in Alicante and only waited a few weeks.

My expert tells me that if you contact the AAEC (contra cancer) organisation they will arrange for an examination in Alicante which is free, but you can make a contribution to the charity.

Good question Polly, and while we're at it, can anyone explain smear tests in Spain. Do you go to your local doctor? Are they expected to be done every 5 years... any other info. I had the 'biopsy' about 10 years ago and after a few years of checkups was declared 'free' of higher risk, and told to go back to 5 yearly tests. I think that test is due this year. Now I live in Spain, and my local nurse is a bit 'over friendly'... I'm a bit nervous!

I went to AECC in Alicante 2 months ago, fantastic service . Carpark underneath, smear within 20 mins then mamo 10 mins later! I gave donation of €50. New model mamo machine is reputed best on costa. Its a charity organization so no spanish medical card needed.
send an email to
[email protected]
ask for a cita with your name and date of birth (Mine took 5 days!)

I went here a couple of years ago through the AECC in Torrevieja and was rather surprised when they advised me to have a smear test as I had a hysterectomy 18 tears prior. They told me that just because I no longer had a womb it didn't mean I couldn.t get cancer so I had one done.

Thanks Rachel. In England I just saw the practise nurse. But if I can go to the local hospital that will be much more comfortable for me here.

I was just told the portakabin type mammogram place was there, turned up & was seen on the spot (after a bit of uncertainty) and in due course my results - thankfully clear - came through
ref smears, haven't yet done anything and really should so I guess best ask at the centro salud??

Its funny you should mention this, I have read a report about a group of men who stole whte coats and a few basic "tools" from the local hospital.

Then then hire a portokabin and went around the country pretending to be a mobile clinic for women.

They have all been found guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution has asked for jailtime.

OK, we know that chaps can get breast cancer - not like girls who can't get testicular or prostate cancer, but it's rare. But I was interested in Madridboy's post. Care to clarify in the interest of mens' health?

TBH I have a small gynecomastia problem from taking too many steroids when I was younger and not being educated on how to use them properly and the doc wanted to check it out. Before anyone (mods or otherwise) starts jumping up & down, steroid use is legal in the UK.
