Mallorca (Majorca) Palma

What are the biggest English based firms out there?

Currently working in the travel industry.

I don't know of any English travel firms operating from Palma. There may be some small satellite offices of UK-based firms. British tourism here accounts for the smaller portion of the overall. Around 20%, IIRC.

You might google around in the Calvia area - that's the British expat and primary British tourist neighbourhood (e.g., Magaluf, Portals, Palmanova, Santa Ponsa, etc.).

Thanks, on a side note what sort of taxes are paid on a salary?

For example, 15K Euros a year? How much per month?

How long is a piece of string?

"Salaried" employee or self-employed?

€15K isn't much to live on. I believe that might even fall into the "poverty" zone. As a salaried employee of a Spanish firm, I'd expect very little of that would be withheld in taxes and social security. I'm not sure really, I'm sure others can tell you.

The bigger problem could be getting a work permit with that salary, as you'd probably be considered a welfare risk.

Basically the company I work for is registered in Spain however trying to get a relocation move to the Palma office and thus would take a pay court in the process from my UK salary.

On a side note, with regards to low paid by Mallorca standards, I have no debt nor any kids and have seen places to rent (I only interested in renting) at around 500 EUROS a month inc the bills.

So say I get paid 1250 a month, minus the accomdation equals around 650(ish) leaves me after tax etc maybe? Is this enough for a single 32 year old to live on out there?

Be a salared employee.

Yes, that would probably do, albeit considering your rent + utility costs (which aren't cheap, particularly electricity), €500 is a pretty optimistic cost of living number, unless you're happy to be some distance from Palma.

I'd recommend living somewhere on the train line, say, Inca or Sineu. It's much cheaper to live in those places, and the train is far cheaper than owning a car and driving it.

Thanks again, I'm a keen cyclist.

Is that an option there?

Surprised you aren't already aware that Mallorca is one of the top destinations for cyclists. Tour de France competitors train here constantly. A sort of mecca, really.

Oh, by the way, you can carry your bike on the train - no extra charge. They have places to secure them inside the carriages.

I'm openly honest I didn't know that.

Though that helps as sadly I'm a none driver.......
