Mail server for Spantel POP3

Hopefully, someone out there has a mailserver which can be used for POP3 mail when using Spantel ADSL. I used comtenidos.com as my SMTP mailserver but it seems that this is no use anymore.

Greateful to anyone who could help.

Download "mail2web" and you can access any account.

Or Thunderbird if you use Firefox.

Cheers Jdr. Can this also be used to send POP3 mail? I could only see mail retrieval from the mail2web site. I am looking for an SMTP.something.com or IP address if you know one.

A shot in the dark, but this might be down to some ISPs (?or mail hosts?) not recognising the former standard outgoing port.

Check your smtp server (in outlook express it's Tools-Accounts-Properties-Advanced options then set your smtp server to 587)

There was some kind of problem with another port being used to generate spam so a previous port being blocked by many service providers.

it's worth a try.

Yes. I have also tried a fair few others which I can ping. Even my old mail.comtenidos.com passes the ping but I always seem to receive 550 relay not permitted when I enter these addresses in my outgoing mail server SMTP in Outlook. Thanks for the lead.

Then as mentioned above it may be your ISP has baned the port from being used, it's becoming more typical these days in a crap way of limiting spam.

I would suggest contacting the tech support and asking if it is blocked and if so is there an alternative or can they unblock the port for your IP.

Or you could a web based email address, something like www.gmail.com which also has superb spam filtering.

Just gave the port change a try. It was peviously set to 25. Unfortunately, I still cannot send mail. My previous settings worked for at least two years so I may have to call again that dreaded 902 number and hope I actually get through. Thanks for the tip.

If you just need an account to send through, I think you can send any mail through outlook if you have a registered yahoo.es or yahoo.co.uk address.

Yahoo.com doesn't do free pop3/smtp.

I'm using my aging vodafone.es POP3 account. Don't really want a new email address as I use it for my existing clients to contact me. Must move on to my own dot com I suppose. I will give the tech support guys a bell in the morning.
