I'm split in two over this. Yes, it will create jobs, and Madrid is extremely well connected by air and (now) high speed rail. And yes, the locals will certainly love a flutter. But there are costs to gambling...

The Spanish and gambling Some may ask why Madrid, and not Paris, London, Berlin or another larger European city, was chosen for the next Vegas. Simply put, the Spanish are infamous gamblers. You cannot walk into a “cervecerÃa†or “cafeteriaâ€â€“local bar or coffee shop–without see the flashing lights of one or two slot machines. Every neighborhood has one or more small casino filled with the slots, horse racing screens and bingo halls. And there is no denying the lottery is a way of life in Spain. |

The Vegas Madrid thing has been around for over a year. File it away with the other one a few years ago in central Spain, plus other hyped failures like Paramount :rofl:

I thought the accepted knocking argument currently was that Spain does get things built - too many of them eg unused airports, high speed train lines etc.? Another company to invest in Spain, and in the process create 18,500 employees. Will be of major interest to expats too - it's Ikea. Let's hope the planning permission delays become a thing of the past. :fingerscrossed:

Looks like a big shopping cente will be built in Ademuz, near Heron City, Valencia (including a Ikea store) funded mainly by the British investment fund Eurofund Investments. Altogether it will cost 700 million euros and generate 4000 jobs. (link in Spanish)

The British fund has been planning the centre for some nine months, and CEO of Eurofund in Spain, Ian Sandford, said they already had agreements with many of the businesses. |

Have you been following the saga of Letizia and Felipe and the claims they have marriage problems? A few years ago no-one printed anything bad about them now la prensa rosa is full of stories about them going out seperately in Madrid. Last week they were having a reunuion with 2 other couples and he turned up alone.

An American presentation of Paramount Park (2 videos back to back on the link). I don't doubt they'll build this, but it doesn't appeal to me. There again I suspect it's the kids and families they'll be hoping to attract.
