Madrid Barajas Airport to be renamed
News in English.
News in Spanish.
Again the news in Spanish gives more details so the full name of the airport is going to be Adolfo Suárez, Madrid- Barajas. That may be confusing or too long.

Length of name is not always the problem. If you used the AENA web site to look for Granada/Jaen airport you used to have to look under "F" as it is the Federico Garcia Lorca, Granada/Jaen airport. They seem to have cottoned on and it is now under "G".

I think people will still just refer to it as Barajas in all honesty.
A well deserved honour for, to my mind, a great man.

Half a million Euros? It must be a large new sign they're planning....

Well they never were much good at sums and looking at how far other projects have gone over budget maybe even ten million would be a conservative estimate.

Re: Madrid Barajas Airport to be renamed
Quite often streets, parks, airports etc have their name changed when a prominent figure dies. Everyone knew that Suarez was going to die one day, and there must have been some thought about naming the airport after him, that has been in the pipeline for a good while.
Knowing that there would be a tribute paid to him for his contribution to Spain, it would have been great to have seen him(and others) given the honour in their lifetime, so they could have known and enjoyed their reward.
It would be better to have changed the name of the airport to honour him when he retired from public life, and not when he dies.
Nelson Mandela did not have to wait till after he died to have a block of flats in Peckham, named after him.
