Los Alcazares
 

As it is a town is it ok for eating out during October and November?

We tend to have menu del dia during the day rather than eat out at night but if we are in the right area of the town we would look forward to eating out at night. We much prefer Spanish food rather than English or whatever, when in Spain.

Also - what would be the best way to get from Murcia Airport to the town. I understand it should take about 10-15 minutes by car.

As you might expect, it is quiet but not dead during off season. There are quite a few restaurants and pubs to choose from.

I would suggest you take a taxi. I guess it would be circa 40€.

We go from San Javier airport into Los Alcazares, has only ever cost us about 12 or 14 euros depending on where our accommodation is.

We like Los Alcazares a lot, it's one of our "candidate" locations for retirement. We're going back for the first two weeks of September. We prefer staying in the "old" part rather than the new golf-type developments.

We want somewhere flat and near Murcia Airport as we will not be driving. Accomodation we are interested in is apparently not far from a bus route to Mucia and Cartagena, so trips to those two are on the cards.

Walks along the seafront and looking around the town will suit us fine - and of course the food.

We are hoping to go for a month but cannot fix anything yet as I am awaiting cataract op.

That is the part we are hoping to find a place in for a month for 4 of us (including my in-laws who are in their 80's). We once stayed in a golf resort (not to play) and it was deserted and soulless.

have you factored the new airport at Corvera if you are taxi only. Its by no means confirmed that existing airlines will continue to use San Javier airport when the new one opens

I have a property on Roda Golf (SNIP). It's not souless (land I agree that some of the other resorts in the area do fit into this category) - it really is a pretty lovely well cared for place with lots of great people living on there. It's not far into town and to the shops and restaurants and a taxi from the airport is only about 12 euro. The old part of Los Alcazares is really charming but lots of Spanish owners have their second homes there and therefore it can be very very quiet off season. The walks along the promenade are lovely and there are plenty of bars and restaurants of all types that cater for all tastes. We are thinking of retiring but would want the ease of mind that if we left at least there would be an onsite security presence - but obviously this does not suit everyone. Los Alcazares is also located on fantastic connecting roads and will only be 20 minutes or so from the new airport at Corvera (go straight up the C3319) when that comes on stream in 2012. However, I suspect there will be bun fight between the 2 airports and Ryanair will certainly go to the facility that offers them the cheapest deal!!

Hello!

I know Los Alcazares. Now there are many people, is for the summer, but it is a very quiet place in the time in which you want to travel. And even the weather is good, if you don't like the heat. You don't will have the problems of the summer heat

It has the advantage of being near the airport of San Javier, which has flights to the UK

Alas, they have now announced that San Javier is to close to civil flights and all non-military flights will now transfer to the new airport at Corvera. Announcement here.

This now means we will have to hire a car or pay for a transfer where we used to get a taxi from San Javier into Los Alcazares for about €12.
