Default Looking at planning move now

Hi all my wife and i are seriously considering our future in Spain but this will be a 5-6 year plan. We own a relatively successful business but our children are not quite the age to fly the coup just yet hence the time. I am 43 and my wife 38 so hoping time is on our side. We are looking at planning now so we can maybe decide where to go and get property sooner rather than later and spend holidays etc there before move get used to culture and language i speak a bit of Spanish but wife none at all. We have seen the buy to own properties and this could be a possibility for us considering the time we have to plan. Also we would possibly want to run a small business like a bar or something too we have seen the warnings on this option but if we broke even would be ok its more for the interest than anything. The questions are really does this sound a reasonable idea? what locations would people recommend? and are we insane to consider the bar idea? Thanks in advance for any help and advice offered.

Do I understand that you plan to stay where you are but in 5 years time to relocate? Also is your current business something similar to what you would have here?At this point,as someone who has operated a successful business in UK & here,I hope you will not be thinking of"breaking even"in your enterprise, but determined to enlarge not only your profit but your experience. You will be coming to a foreign country & no matter how much time you spend beforehand coming on holiday,it is very different living & working here permamently.Think positively.Good luck.

Hi Dougal and thanks for your reply the answer is no we would not be relocating our current business to Spain but it will still run in the UK for us. The comment about breaking even was if we opened a little bar to keep us busy while there. We are also in a position to not work at all but think it would drive me potty. The idea is to plan now and purchase somewhere in advance of the move in 5 years.

I'm afraid "little bars" come and go by the dozen here in Spain. Maybe you also should have a plan "B"

Coming from someone that owns bars, if you haven't owned/run a bar in the UK, you'd have to be absolutely crazy to attempt it in Spain.

There are approximately 290,000 cafés , bars and restaurants in Spain. The main business of a bar is sale of coffee, next biggest volume wine. If you are serious you need to look at a "Traspaso" - transfer of ownership for whatever reason. There are plenty advertised at various prices, normally the higher the charge the better the establishment. If you have some spanish go to Mil Anuncios for your chosen region.
An example below of the listing for Malaga : https://www.milanuncios.com/traspaso...res-en-malaga/

But this is for 5-6 years time, so who knows what visa, if any, might be needed.
