Ah so you only want a property not the whole of Almeria ?

Never know you you could probably buy the whole place for a song the way things are going.
The Spanish govt is getting pretty desperate for cash and much of Almeria is worthless desert, so who knows.
You could always split it into plots and sell it over to the Arabs at a tidy profit.

hahaha that is true, people are still over pricing the property even though there are millions of empty ones, looking for something nice, something cheap, cash buy no mortgages, thought someone might be desperate to buy as i hear people are walking away from houses cheap.

Or you could look at Kyero site : They are advertising a town house for 21.000 Euros in Seron. It looks like you could live in it. http://www.kyero.com/property/177957...for-sale-seron

wow that is very cheap, was wondering what would be possible with about £40k (british) cash, it seems a good time to buy, not looking for good resale investment just a family holiday home really, i am out here with my husband and daughter, my parents want to move out and other family like to visit so time to buy somewhere, my family are in the building trade so a project house would be fine that needed finishing or work doing, there is bound to be a good opportunity out here!

Just be careful, lots of Spaniards are squatting in empty properties so you can expect holiday homes to be targetted, probably only going to work if you have someone living there all the time.

The coastal areas remain fairly expensive (although cheap by Costa del Sol standards). Inland, there are plenty of cheap places for sale - although you might be a bit lonely. Beware of 'illegal houses' owned - it's sad to say - exclusively by Britons who may want to sell you a nice place along with a snow job. Try Almeria Alpujarras (Google) maybe.

What amount do you mean in "cheap"?

You should check our local agents. Google 'mojacar estate agents' for example...
There's a 'special' on Mojacar and surrounds in the latest edition of 'The Olive Press'

Well looking for a real steal have £40,000 (UK) cash, would be willing to take a small mortgage for the right property also would consider a project really like the almeria costa. There are tons of apartments about with signs up absolutely hundreds was just wondering if there was anything else on offer in the area.

I don't know the name of the complex, but its opposite Al Andalus Thalassa and apparently there is a huge sign outside 2 bed apartments for €56,000!

Not on the coast but in the Granada Alpujarras, (beautiful scenery and friendly village), I can vouch for this house personally. Totally legal and absolutely immaculate, and an ideal lock-up-and-leave holiday home. More than your cash price but you said you would take a small mortgage for the right house.

(Edited to add, it's not MY house, which was sold in April! - Just trying to help the OP!).

It's a really lovely house, different from all the identical apartments which I like, not costa but it's right by the national park it would seem. So is it cold there in the winter? I heard that is was worse staying on the coast because the houses are not built for the cold, my current apartment is dangerous when it rains the rain comes through the big gap in the roof and soaks all of the staircase, think it's something to do with the roof terrace, anyway lovely apartment, not sure about spending the winter in it though I am not really sure what to expect from the Spanish winter, I arrived here in March so even though not summer it was still quite warm.

As I said I have £40k cash which I think is almost 50k euros at the moment, and I could take a mortgage but I wouldn't want one bigger than 10 perhaps 20k so I think that leaves me in the 70-80 thousand euros as a max budget, but it would be really awsome not to have to have a mortgage of course!
