30th June is the last day to change any pesetas notes or coins that you may still have stashed away at home.

You can do this at the Bank of Spain (branches across the country).

Don't know if he also had any pesetas, but some years ago the Mayor of a village in my area was arrested on corruption charges and the GC found €160,000 under his mattress. He was also found not to have withdrawn a centimo of his salary for several years.
