Log splitters...
 

Im thinking of buying a log splitter.. as Ive got about 50 trees that have been felled and logged, and I dont fancy doing it all with an axe..

logs range from 10cm- 30cm diameter..

any recommendations? oh and I dont want to spend a fortune on one..

Aldi were selling cheap ones apparently, it was on a professional site I am on, one of the members live in Spain and he gave a little review of it, seemed OK for what you are looking for. I can't get a link because it automatically picks up my IP addy so won't let me search in Spain.

Please.... be careful, they are not toys, I know that goes without saying but even a small slip up, even with domestic ones, can be harmful. Can't you just find someone with one, or hire a foreigner to stand and split the wood for a bit of money and some food?

Hi,

no i'd rather buy one, then sell it on when done, then I can do it at my leisure, and getting someone to do it for me, nice idea, but they would want too much money, as there would be a lot more than a days work... its a 'big' pile of wood....lol,

and yup. ill be careful, after chainsawing up 60 pinetrees, ive learnt to watch what im doing, and take my time....:thumbup: cant afford to get injured..

ps.... I looked at the other thread, and dont fancy using the wedge... looks just as difficult than using just an axe...

Even if you can't get the fancy looking one, and don't find an old-fashioned kind of solid tear-or-diamond shaped British type one, don't waste your money on one of the Spanish (even heavy) cold-chisel kinds! Hmmph!

Yep, and tree surgeons work with chainsaws every day, it doesn't stop them getting killed every year...

It seems that just about any muppet with a chain saw or a chopping axe can set themselves up as a so called "tree surgeon".
I recall seeing a vid of one chopping of a limb high up in a tree while sitting on the outer end of it. Very lucky he didn't saw off his own head as he came crashing down.
If the skill levels of medical surgeons were on a similar level,I reckon there'd soon be a dramatic increase in the death rate.

mind you here in Spain, someone only has to change a plug, and they call themself an electrician...

I would no where call myself a tree surgeon, but if they are felled, (by someone else) im quite happy to saw off the branches and log them, though fingers crossed :fingerscrossed: ive got guy coming out soon the chip/shred all the smaller branches, as my shredder aint good enough..
