To the "Cricket man"..
It is great my job, I was stood today on the beach waiting to meet up with a client. It was lovely and warm with the sea softly sweeping across the sand and scantily clad senoritas running along holding hands and laughing, and I got paid to watch that. HA HAAAAAA...:rofl:

You either make porno movies or sell ice creams:rofl::rofl:

Or hire out deckchairs.

Or work in a beach bar.

Hey! Or he could give surfing/scuba/powerboat lessons.

All very good guesses but none correct I'm afraid. I don't work on the beach, though I wouldn't mind if all the days were the same as in the summer. :)

Living in Spain - the good things!

Well, trying to stick to the thread header I'd think of the following (based on my previous experiences there):

Fantastic food and drink (highly subjective though, if you're a "real ale" fan)
Good public transport, especially in the cities, at a far lower costs than the UK
Ability to get things done. I know this goes against the Anglo-saxon mind-set, but I'm thinking of big projects like the AVE train lines. It'll be at least 20-30 years before the London to Scotland high speed line is put in place (if ever).
A more relaxed attitude to eating/drinking/snacking. In my experience you don't get waiters hovering over you once you've finished your meal, in an attempt to get you out of the place to make space for new customers.

My last point, which I acknowledge is very anecdotal and doesn't tie in with most people's experience, is that I found Madrid (on two different occasions) a lot easier to find work than in the UK. Furthermore I've yet to meet anyone who went to Madrid and failed to get work. Obviously this may have changed over the last years, and it's certainly a different situation to other parts of Spain. It's frightening to see the unemployment figures in the south, although when you realise there are 9 million "economically inactive" people in the UK, the bitter truth is that work may be scarce everywhere. I'm lucky to be back in work after a very hard year in the UK.

Things in Spain that will never be as satisfying as the UK to Brits - parks, breakfast (especially the bacon), tea.

Stevie why are you in the UK if it is so easy to get a job in Madrid and you love the lifestyle:confused:

I will give the same answer I gave before (you have a very selective memory) My partner is ill at times and I need to be there for her. It's actually quite a concern for me at the moment as I have to spend close to 6 hours daily in commuting to work (it's in London). I could stay overnight at a b&b in London, but I'd feel bad doing this all week knowing my partner was alone. In the long term (if I hold onto this job) we'd like to get somewhere to live in London, but easier said than done if you're not millionaires.

As for "suffering the UK" I've always stated there are good things about the UK eg mild climate, parks, tea, roast meals, sporting events etc. But typical of you to get upset that I can point out good things about Spain (in particular Madrid), and attack me instead of my observations. Are you really so upset by the fact Spain does some things well (but not everything)?

Not at all, otherwise I would not not keep visiting the place, just don´t go to the same optician as you, mine doesn´t sell those rose tinted variety.
Wade your way thought this thread, there are many thousands of Spanish working perfectly happily in UK, and even buying property in London, it's not impossible. One couple telling us they earn over £80K, something she could not achieve in Spain. They even have a female "cricketman", she won't have a bad word said about UK! :) A lot don't like the weather of course, but even that has people that say it doesn't worry them, they prefer it to the heat of Zaragoza. For me it's an interesting read, as it's like this forum in reverse, the only difference is they are here to work not to retire. Reading some of the comments, it seems that they do not support your theory that jobs are two a penny in Spain.

LOL. If I or anyone one else had said this, you'd have half a point. In fact it's totally opposite to what I actually did put..

Obviously a waste of time debating anything with you. Please lie about something else.
