living in gibraltar

Hi

A newbie here, so please be gentle with me!!

Myself and my partner have decided to take the plunge and move to Gib in the new year, any advice/experiance anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated!

I am planning on starting up my own business over there (fingers crossed), can I register the name now even though I still currently live in the UK?

We were thinking about living across the boarder but are not unsure, I am aware off the costs of renting in GIb, but thinking this might be offf set by the cost of travelling form Spain and just make life easier if actually working in Gib.

Any the normal obvious question, health, doctors, dentists, as we are both on british passports is the health care the same as in the England and we just register with a local one or is it not that easy?

Thats all for now until i think of more questions, both scared but cant wait!

Many Thanks

As Concierges for the Spanish section of BE we would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let us know if you need any further help.

Rosemary and Graham

Type Gibraltar in the search this forum box and you should see previous threads on the subject.
You need to do some serious thinking as living in one country and working in another is not easy.
You will not be covered the same as the UK system in Spain unless you pay into the system, don`t know about Gib as it is a different country to Spain. ;);)
Also you will pay your taxes in the country you live in which could give you grief you work in Gib and live in Spain.

Can I ask Why Gibraltar rather than Spain? Is it because of language issues?
My husband has looked into working in Gibraltar and living in Spain for this reason. I have to say as self employed myself, living in Spain the taxes are extremely high. I'm not sure how bad it is if your company is the equivalent of a 'limited liability' company As employed you would still have to pay taxes in Spain if living in Spain... Having said that we love living here but OH is still looking for work.
