Living in Cantabria

Hey everyone,

I have been living here in Torrelavega, Cantabria for nearly a couple of months now after accepting a job offer to teach English in an academy here.
So far so good although i need some advice... do they have social clubs here? I have tried goggling it but nothing useful so far. Or any other ideas on how to meet some more people would be very welcome

Would also love to hear from anyone else who is living in this beautiful region and meet up for some tapas :)

Hi - I suspect you may be 300km from the closest forum member! I know a German couple near Comillas who speak English, but I don't think they'd drive into Torrelavega just to chat to an English-speaking stranger!
Maybe you could start a club going yourself with something like Meetup.com or Facebook?

Hi, I would like to move to Cantabria and I was wondering if you can help me? I am an English teacher in Madrid and I am currently looking for work, do you have any contacts or recommendations on how to find work in Cantabria?

Thanks

Hi graffy, i don't know how much i can help but i what i do know for sure is there's a high demand for English teachers here due to it being a far less "English people" hot spot, it's not so touristy. The best way would be to get up here for a visit and drop your CV in as there are plenty of English academies here. Where i live in Torrelavega there are at least 15 and its a small town. In Santander there a far more.
If this isn't possible i would recommend googling academies in Cantabria, or the two major towns- Torrelavega and Santander and just emailing them your CV. I'm afraid i don't have any actual contacts, I know that my boss will possibly be looking for a part-time teacher for the next academic year but other than that i'm not sure.

I will more than likely be staying out here another year and i will be advertising for a flat mate as of next september so keep in touch if you do end up here and are looking for somewhere to rent.

All the best :)
