Living in the Almeria / Mercia area

We are looking at retiring to the area as we understand that the prices are a little better than some of the other main resort's. Potentially a little bit away from the sea in order to keep the price keen as well. Is there any area that can be recommend that's not more than 20 minutes drive from the sea and maybe 20 minutes drive from a golf club !

Mercia doesn't exist any more. see here..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercia

I assume you mean Murcia, anywhere along the coast and even up as far as the Costa Blanca will fit your requirements, there are so many golf courses that you would find it difficult NOT to be within a 20 min drive from a golf course, you need to look at house prices for the area, and I would suggest renting for 6 months to a year before committing to buy. Have a look on Kyero, idealista or rightmove to see what is available.

Many thanks. We are travelling to Alicante in a few weeks and plan to look at as many places from there along the coast. It seems to be a bit of mission but fun at the same time

Properties are cheaper in Almeria, but not so many nice golf courses.

Look North from Cartagena. http://clubmurcia.com/index.php/en/

Properties are cheap in Los Alcazares

Hi Lee. I hope you have an enjoyable time in seeking permanent accommodation to your liking. Read the livin' blazes out of this forum and any other forum you can get your hands on. Soak up all the information and know before you purchase any property (Rule Number 1) you need a gestor (solicitor) to act solely for you and not anybody representing the vendor or estate agent. Get that number one rule into your head and you're half way to accomplishing your mission.

Rule Number 2:- Try and rent in an area you like for no less than 4/5 weeks in the off season. Spend that time talking, listening, walking, etc. By the end of that time you will know if Spain is for you or if Spain is for you for say a few months of the year.

Rule Number 3:- Know the house/apartment/duplex/villa you are buying. What are the neighbours like. How far walk is it to the nearest good supermarket? Is the local bus service good and cheap?

Rule Number 4:- Do you really need to sell your home in the UK? What about renting it out to finance your stay in Spain? Do you really need to buy in Spain? Is Long Term Rental much less risk and far cheaper?

Rule Number 5:- Your adventure turns pear shape. Is it easy to sell the Spanish property?

I hope your mission is fun and successful.

What places are on your shortlist?
Do you have any friends living in those areas?
Have you contacted local EA?
We all have differing requirements. It may help focus your thoughts to write down your own in order of priority. You might want to do this independently then compare with your partner.

Hi we are looking at Lorca,Los Alcazaras (as near a bowls club), Mar Menor. Just keeping looking at tv shows , YouTube etc just for ideas. We do not have any friends there which we have no issue with as we want to meet new ones.

I meant friends who could advise you regarding their location.

Three places that are different. Well Lorca is different to the others, being inland. What makes you like these places?

I think you need to find an area you like/would like to live in and and make sure it's for you and then find a property.
