As your thread title says “ Spanish dream” , it’s best to just keep it that way.

The sort of job the OP is looking at are very low paid and often taken up by friends and families of the owner, also most are not contracted, so no healthcare coverage., It's now July and the holiday season has about another three months to run, and then places will get very quiet, hospitality jobs will disappear, a fair number of pubs, bars and cafes will close, never to reopen unless they can find another person who thinks they can 'make a go of it'. Spain is a great place to have money, not great if you don't and are not fluent in the language, which is why there are thousands of UK pensioners there, they are covered for heath care and get their pensions paid direct to them, they don't need to earn a living.

I am in fear following this thread. It appears to be not to be in the Happy Ending scripts. I hope I'm wrong.

I think you've hit it on the head there Mike. I'm certainly glad I've not got to find work at this time.

It's often said that the best way to have a million in Spain is to start off with two million. if you are NOT fluent or bring a niche skill to the country, then you will struggle unless you have plenty of money stashed away.

Hence I am after some advise. I decided to go first and make a start in Spain and for my partner to follow me in a couple of months. Plan is to stop somewhere down the coast, hopefully pick up a seasonal job and take it from there.... long story short i have a few question i was hoping to get some help with:

1. NIE number do i need it before i start work in Spain? or can i get employed without and apply after?
You would need to apply for an NIE number before doing anything else - a Gestor can help you with this.

2. any websites where i could find people willing to get somebody into their spare room? i am looking at a month long rental
No idea, but you will ultimately need to rent a flat, to get a Padron Certificate, open a bank account and think about applying for residency. If you have so little cash you can't do this in the beginning, you need to think about your options very carefully!

3. tourist locations - do they really go all quiet from October with no chances of finding a job?
If you don't have a specialist or trade skill, basically yes

4. any advice on the best locations to start with?
The Benidorm area

thank you in advance for any help!
I would say that you never know what someone else's experience is going to be.
I would also say that you need to come here with some money. Gone are the days when the economy was booming and you could get residency by just signing onto the list of foreigners.
I reckon currently you need €20K minimum (€15k float in a Spanish account - €5K to rent a flat, pay for Gestor services and live here for a few months) to just successfully show that you have sufficient resources to come here and gain residency!

You might be able to get work somewhere like Benidorm, Calpe and Altea. I notice that the Iceland overseas supermarket in Javea is always recruiting for staff.
You are unlikely to earn more than the minimum which is a little over €8 an hour.

Ideally you and your partner would work from home in the UK and your employment could be done anywhere in the world with an internet connection etc.

Otherwise you have to create your own work here, which is tough! The social security payment per month if you are self employed (autonomo) is €290 (after a discounted period when you start out) whether you are earning an income of not!
Creating your own work will involve things that a master's degree can't help you with here... for example being a car mechanic or a plumber would be of more use.

If you have a trades skill and have enough money to perhaps come and fund yourselves for three years... pay rent, pay for private language lessons for your child, set up a business (buy a van, tools etc) then you have a chance.
If you are an office worker in the UK and your looking for bar work here, your going to find it really tough and with Brexit on the way, I don't think you have time on your side.

I have friends who run a very successful B&B / Casa Rural - they advertise on AirBnB
But regardless you need to come with a lot of money to buy property and gain licenses for something like this

Wouldn't the OP(s) have to set up as Autonomo anyway? If they physically work in Spain, wherever their clients are, how else would they have Spanish healthcare coverage?
The OP hasn't come back to give more details, but a Primary age child wouldn't need many private language lessons to reach the level of his/her peers in Grammar, and conversation would quickly develop when playing with new-found friends. On the other hand, a Secondary age child would need many intensive lessons in Grammar and Spanish Culture, evenings after school and at weekends, and wouldn't have time or energy to make friends. Not knowing how old the OP's daughter is, I'd add that, if she is a pre-teen or teen, she wouldn't have any friends or other family to confide in and, as all parents know, they are the last to learn how unhappy their children might be.

Private healthcare is much cheaper if you are in your 30s or 40s!

No you can be employed by a UK company, work remotely and receive a salary - the salary needs to be declared and the tax must be paid in Spain if you are tax resident.
Obviously if he is a plumber here he will need to be Autonomo.
