LHD dealers profit
I have been looking for a LHD car for a while and watching Auto Trader,Ebay etc. I saw a Volvo estate that looked OK at a price of £2950 on Auto Trader and phoned the vendors at 08.30 to be told that the car had been sold the previous night as soon as it was advertised. OK missed it I reasoned to myself, never mind keep looking. Two weeks later the SAME car was advertised at a dealer (I wont mention their name--unless asked) for £4300! Nice work if you can get it eh!

I think that's a pretty average profit margin for a car dealer. Incidentally, having looked at U.K dealers selling LHD cars, their prices seem very high - must be scarcity value??

I just thought that 40% profit seemed a bit excessive to me.

Why not buy a RHD car, for much less, drive it to Spain and convert it to Spainish playes?

It depends on the age of the car, size of engine and value when new. Lots of threads here about this.
Our 1995 Discovery cost 550euros, but it is LHD we would never have bought specifically to bring here a RHD. What is the point, would you like to drive LHD around UK? I suspect not.

Normal mark up ,when you take into account wages, site rental, the fact you have to gaurantee cars as a trader ,plus it may not sell for months etc etc its not a huge profit, ,makes me laugh when the general public think its all clear profit ,if you asked Joe public to work for free they would tell you where to go.

Re: LHD dealers profit
I've 'watched' a second hand car dealer over the years (I walk past his place often) and also follow prices because of a self interest. This English guy rents a 'bomb site' which has a wooden shed on it for his office and holds about ten cars.
He buys in at around 5K and sells for around 7K, and clears his site once a year. He only deals in Spanish cars. Even with his smallish overheads, and a secretary, he's not exactly making a fortune, and I know that at least once a year he comes unstuck with a car he can't sell for a profit and he has to accept a loss.
