Lemon Law?
 

I never gave a thought to there being a 'Lemon Law' in Spain as there is in various States in the USA - but I've been told today that there is, and that some lawyers 'specialise' in administering the law.

Anyone able to confirm please? Oh, BTW, I'm not talking about laws controlling the lemons on our trees, nor the use of such lemons to decorate our cocktails ;) .

Does that come from the expression being sold a lemon, as in being sold a dud second hand car, or maybe vica versa.

I think there are cases in the UK where buyers rights under the law, exceed the rights which companies wrongfully include in their sales contract, though I've never heard of these referred to as lemon law.

Apologies for delay in coming back with a response - a 24 hour 'bug' hit me and I'm just shaking it off.

The 'Wikipedia' definition sums up the situation perfectly, I asked the question because I had never heard of such a law being implemented in Spain. The other 'State-side' is termed the 'Switch and Buy' law, whereby a buyer, if he/she can prove the claim, is led into believing that a demonstration item will reflect virtually perfectly, the performance of the subsequent purchase.

The specific in question is a kitchen with integrated white goods. The showroom demo suggested that the product worked well, however, the actual installation falls far short of the showroom installation and whereas I was preparing to 'write off' the losses, a 'lemon Law' (on assumption I have bought a 'lemon') could prove a loss-saver.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone heard of the Orange law or something similar in Spain, whereby weary travellers have the right to rest overnight on another persons land and help themselves to a couple of oranges before proceeding on their way ?
