LCD TV's used as PC Monitors
I really need a bigger monitor for the PC something 24" or larger.
Anyone any experiences (Good or bad) of doing this in Spain? Recommendations? Thanks in advance. |

The Samsungs are excellent, and I have used that company many times, good service and delivery, etc. Don't forget though, if it is for gaming, you will need a pretty decent graphics card to drive the monitor! Shout if you need help! Tim |
Re: LCD TV's used as PC Monitors
I have a 32" in my bedroom TV but I plug my laptop in the picture is not great - blurry I would say and the Resolution is uncomftable, I have to be close to it and thats not good with a 32", maybe a smaller one like a 22" would be better, I have 2 20" LCD coming this week to be used in conj with a CCTV Project but one of them will be used as a TV and a PC Monitor in the daytime aswell, purposley bought for the 3 uses to be run at the same time.
I will let you know if any improvement on the 32" Best thing to do is find out the resolution you are comfortable with, see if the TV you want will goto to that and if you can take your laptop / PC to a shop and try it, I wouldnt buy one on someones reccomendation myself. |

I have a Dell 24" and it also takes input from the Sky box but the resolution is the normal SD picture. If you connected a HD box you would get full HD resolution. My 40" HD TV takes PC input but it's limited to VGA input which will be pretty poor in comparison. Some TV's have a full DVI input and that should work fine. |

That's because the resolution on the laptop is set for the screen of the laptop and the tv cannot handle it. We were discussing pc's and monitors, not TV's, hence the comment about needing a decent graphics card to drive it, and the link given was for PC monitors.
Thought you were in the trade! Snipe away. If I was to spend a few quid on it Id want to be happy, for my use its ok but If i was fussy I wouldnt do what I have done |

Re: LCD TV's used as PC Monitors
The general rule is a LCD TV is good for TV and a LCD Monitor is good for your PC. If you plan to use the monitor for long periods of time go for a proper monitor and rule out a LCD TV. I have a the HP w2408h 24" LCD Monitor and it gives a cracking PC image for long periods of working.

Re: LCD TV's used as PC Monitors
Maybe I can clarify my question so to clear up any doubts or confusion.
I have a 19" ws monitor that's just not big enough for what I need it for. Yes I can go for a 24" PC Monitor but the question really is. Can I use lets say a 28" or 32" LCD TV with my PC in place of a monitor? What's the pros and cons of this? Does anyone do it? Can anyone recommend a LCD TV (available in Spain)that would work with what I'm trying to achieve? I don't want any high powered games on it. It will just be normal PC use and playing movies through the PC's DVD player. Some of the finer details on the pages need to be bigger. The important thing is that its clear and readable. I'm sure going from 19" to 24" will make a huge difference but I'm just trying to gather all the facts about what's good and what's achievable. Then make an informed decision. Thanks for all the replies up to now :) |

You will certainly lose definition using a TV, picture resolution is too small and I very much doubt that you would be able to make out any fine print. It will certainly NOT be clear and readable
