Lanzarote retirement plans
 

Hi all, hoping for some advice on long term plans to retire to Lanzarote.
Partner and I are fast approaching 40, and plan to retire at or shortly before 60. We don't have a lot of family, it's really only my parents, so we are considering retiring to Lanzarote once they're gone. We will both have decent pensions (assuming nothing goes wrong in the next 20 years!) I know it might be considered a bit premature to start planning 20 years in advance, but I would rather start planning now to make sure everything is in place rather than leave things to the last minute and miss out on our dream retirement.
I would be grateful for any advice anyone can offer, including whether you think we're too early to start planning!

The situation in 20 years is very likely to be considerably different to what it is today, for on the UK should have left the EU, and whatever changes come from that we still do not know. By all means think about it and consider what you might do, but please take all research as preliminary as we do not know what the political climate of either Spain, the EU or the UK will be.

It is good to plan ahead but life has its own sense of humour.
Too many variables, your parents probably have their own plans which may not include death at or near your 60th birthday. Relationships do not always weather well with time.

Spain may get too hot, expensive or somehow you may go off the idea, just as the wind can and does change direction.
Dream retirement? The pace of change appears to increase over time, there is no knowing what lottery wins may befall you and your loved ones.

Some of us can't decide what to have for breakfast tomorrow. I admire your sense of certainty. :thumb:

A true story

A friend of mine was in need of a new suit back in the early 90's, being a good Yorkshireman and having a mother in law in her late 80's he chose a dark colour thinking that it would save him buying another for her funeral.

Needless to say the ma in law out lived the suit, she departed this world aged 103;)
