Default La Marina, Costa Blanca, Spain

Will my TV etc work in Spain, or will I have to buy new in Spain.
Also what would I have to pay for medical care as I am only 52 and I
believe I will have to pay for this.

Hi Kath & Mitch,

Your UK TV will work in Spain, however the sound/vision channel separation is different out here, so you will have to buy a (cheepo) video recorder out here and use a SCART connection to the TV for terrestial programmes. If your TV is not expensive, or is older, you might be cheaper and easier buying one out here. Sky will work fine, again through a SCART lead, but don't bring your Sky dish - you will need a much larger one out here.

Regards medical care, if you are working and paying Social Security out here you will be covered by the Spanish health service. If not you WILL have to take out private cover until you reach state pension age when you will again be covered by the Spanish health service assuming you take out residentia, but private cover is much cheaper than UK. I am with Sanitas (a BUPA derivitave!) which costs 62€ a month (for a 57 year old) and covers the whole of Europe. There are much cheaper options, but you get what you pay for! It will also depend on your health record. In general all the health services here are better than UK with much shorter waiting times to see a Doctor/Specialist, but you will have to wait on the day of the appointment (like everything else in Spain - take a good book to read!)

Have fun in Spain, most do,

Jock
