Hi all I've not been back to this site for a short while, We need some more help please.
We are aware we need N.I.E no. for schools, electricity etc, the thing is we have sold our house and are due to complete in august and then come out in the november, we know where we want to live and are in constant touch with letting agents out there for properties etc, it will be no problem sorting that out, just before we come, however the problem is obtaining our no's for the children to start school etc, i've been told we will need to go to torremilinos to get them and then will need to go back 1 month later, we can't get the no. without having an address but can't get them in school without no. surely there is a faster way to get them so that our kids aren't having longer off school than is necessary, we've been told the same about our padron too which as you know is another document required for school enrolment etc. Has anybody been in same position and found a better way to sort it because otherwise its my understanding we will need to come out then wait a month to get no's and padron then enrol our kids and it could even get to 2 months my inlaws said ( they did it all 4 yrs ago) maybe things have changed i need much more uptodate info. Sorry for the essay haha:ohmy: |

Re: kerry
I am not sure but I don't think you need a NIE number for schools, but padron definitely yes. This is probably not much help mind... How old are the children? School places for September are currently being offered, our son is 4 and cannot get into the school right opposite. You may be better waiting till you are here even though not ideal for them, because otherwise it will be a genuine headache.

Re: kerry
Hi thanks for your prompt answer, we have twins at 6 and then 9 yr old also,
we defo need nie for schools as we have been advised by the school when we tried to enrol them for this yr, the only thing is they don't tell you the quickest way to get it, only that you need it. I want to try to get all this sorted before we come, then kids can just start school etc, its looking more and more like we are going to have to come then do it all which isn't ideal to keep kids off school for longer than is necessary. I think I will try the spanish embassy here in UK and see what they say, I'd appreciate any more help though thanks |
Re: kerry
You do not need nie to enrol in a school here, our Grandchildren in school here and you do not need it, as said, just need to be on padron, good luck

Re: kerry
If you are planning to live in the Málaga area, you need to go to Málaga main police station to get your NIE numbers. As for schools, they need to know where you're going to live as its usually catchment based. I just went to the local school and filled out a form - They took a copy of my daughters passport and that was that. My kids dont even have NIE numbers, altho I belive they need to have them if they're over 13 - so something else to put on my "to do" list for the summer holidays!

(you have to enroll every year for secondary school) in any case - you definitely need the padron to enroll in school - & you definitely can't get that without an address - which I suppose you won't have until you actually live here |
Re: kerry
I have a list of what I need to enrol my kids in the jacaranda school in pueblo, the school gave me the form to complete after taking photocopies of their passports in march when we made sure we were there for enrolment however the places we had gotten weren't guaranteed until we had nie, padron and family book, so I defo need them but just wanted a simplar way to get them without the wait, so the kids aren't off school unnecessarily, It looks as though our options are limited.
I want to thank everyone for their advise though, its greatly appreciated. |

Re: kerry
As has been suggested above, you can obtain your NIEs from the Spanish Consulates in London or Manchester (and Glasgow, I think  )

Re: kerry
I was under the impression that children "should" have a NIE if they are living here, as they are residents just like their parents and need to be "accounted for". It is all such a minefield... Are there definitely places free for your children Kerry? I know at my local school there are few or no free places for children starting at classes which have already formed, and they cannot squeeze people in (which is understandable I suppose although very inconvenient in our case!). I believe too that the Jacaranda is highly oversubscribed, at least for the first class P3. Good luck!
