just starting looking at CDS
I thought I'd give a brief run down on where we are at as a few have asked. . .
OH has wanted to leave UK for a while but I'm little miss scaredypants. We have our own business which we carried on running from Competa while we holidayed for a couple of weeks this summer (never have time off when self-employed )
Maybe it was the sun, the beer, or just the time is right (who knows?) but I just thought s**t what's the diff between running things from my office at home, or running things from my office in Spain. Not a lot except a much better way of life I hope for my boys (aged 4 and 5), and of course us! Hubby will have to commute a lot as UK side will be kept & expanded (hopefully so I can afford to stay in Spain!!) and we want to set up what we do here too. Can't really go into more detail on that or this thread will self destruct . . . . (OK mods?)
So here it begins . . . we want to get work up and running first or else it will probably just be a holiday home we look at, only time will tell on that one. Started learning Spanish, but keep slipping into French ! And my mum will follow us out too. Plus more family in time. First trip out to research planned this October half term. We reckon on it taking us 2-3 years to get all set up.
While i'm waffling, can anyone advise, should we be OK getting a cheap last minute deal on a villa/flat rental for 1 week, or will it get busy again as half term? (Malaga-Estepona coastal area).
And are there any business network orgs in the area?

Awwww Eve, poor you! At least no kids there yet!
Do you know the thai restaurant a couple of villages down from you, just below the very strange couple of sculptured villas? (By the same artist who did the little seating area in Competa near the hardware store?) Hubby wants to go back there if we can so maybe you could join us all!

Do you mean the one in Archez, if so, yes I know it is there but have never visited it. Have you eaten there, I have heard it is good but some of it very spicy, sounds good to me.
First day was ok, actually I was only in for the morning, same tomorrow too so getting there gently!!
I have just been to our town centre and it made me want to get straight back on a plane, listening to some of the groups of youngsters, bearing in mind that I am not of an age to be written off yet!! Well it just made me want to scream, why do they have to use such bad language all the time, no wonder the kids at school come out with these sorts of things, many of these could be their older brothers and sisters, and who knows in this day and age, parents!! what chance to the littlies have!
Get off my soap box, i need a job in spain!!

Know what you mean Eve, the only time that we ever hear that sort of language is when we visit towns where the Brits live and then we just want to run and hide because we are so ashamed to be British. Unfortunately bad language is an integral part of some families lives so small children are surrounded by it and therefore grow up with it as a 'norm'....very sad.
Obviously it is a fact that we may not understand the Spanish kids swearing so could be seen as oblivious. However, we have found that if any of the teenagers seem to step out of line people in the community tell them off as though they are their own children so the control is there. Also the youngsters show a great deal of respect to the older people in the town.

It's the community feeling and family emphasis that is soooo appealing. We were told whilst in Competa if there is any crime (and it is very low) it's usually someone local and they get pulled by the ear by the police to face up to whomever they've upset to apologise and suffer the consequence. How true I don't know, but Hoorah for community spirit! Here, you would get ' yeah . . . . like bovvered. Talk the the hand.' And that's the parents
Anyway back to the serious business of socialising the food at the thai place is to die for, I don't personally do spicy so you do get a choice, however the spicy stuff is disguised as mild and then bites you on the bum! You should try it Eve The food, not bum biting that is . . .
Hi BigB (can I call you that?) Yep that's the one in Archez, I don't suppose you've got their number then???
I love those little hobbit holes and there's a few of those strange little creations around the area aren't there? I did a thesis on Gaudi at college and it's always been my dream to one day finally make it to Barcelona on a Gaudi pilgrimage. One day . . .

Got to try and sort a vid clip out now, thought I had posted it earlier but it doesn't seem to be there,
