Jimmy Savile

Re: Jimmy Savile
There is a suggestion that it was considered almost too shocking to believe. I don't think we'll ever really know the truth some of it was just too long ago.
What really bugs me is the business with the BBC Newsnight programme less than 12 months ago. Newsnight is a respected programme so what really happened there and why is the BBC so reluctant to tell us? The current Director General who was in charge of programme schedules at the time has admitted he was told by the Head of News that Newsnight was investigating Savile and that might mean a need to change his Christmas schedules. He said he didn't enquire as to the nature of the programme because of the 'chinese wall'. He trusted he would be told what he needed to know when he needed to know it. OK, its that 'chinese wall' that enables journalists to retain their independance from the rest of the corporation. Thus they supposedly have the freedom to report things that show the rest of the BBC in a negative light.
So what did Newsnight find out and why did they cancel the programme? If it turns out that it was cancelled because it would have made the BBC look bad that has huge implications for current reporting standards. It will seriously damage their standing thoughout the world.

At the moment the question is not wether he was guilty, but just how many times he was guilty which appears to be an unprecedented number as far as the UK is concerned at least.
The police chiefs are openly referring to him as a paedo as are many others in authority having viewed the evidence to date.
It is not only the BBC coming under the spotlight for dropping their programme to expose him, but also the Police themselves who have yet to fully explain why they dropped no fewer than seven seperate investigations into Saviles activities.
On one occasion Savile took a young girl from a remand home and illegally kept her in his house all night before handing her in at the local police station the next day fully confident that the police would take no action against him.
Savile even describes this episode himself in his autobiography.
Who was ever going to be able to take him down regardless of any evidence presented ?
The guy was looked upon in all circles as totally untouchable and absolutely no one from his victims through to the Police and authorities ever dared to risk fully exposing him because of the likely repercussions.
In reality he had more protection from exposure and prosecution than even the Royal family.

The Police are looking at three groups - Savile on his own, Savile with others and others on their own. Arrests and prosecutions may take place but those who were victims of Savile alone 'will receive acknowledgement' of what happened to them, the police spokesman said. That's it 'acknowledgement' , no criminal charges with a corpse in the dock. That all seems pretty sensible to me.

Re: Jimmy Savile
If you assume the allegations are all true, then you have to ask "how did he get away with it?" 300+ allegations, all "hushed up". Just how does someone do that? Money? Political influence,or what?
If there is any proof to even just one, then those that covered it up should be brought to justice.
Now someone has added the accusation of "necrophiliac" to his list of crimes, possibly making him the biggest "monster" of modern times. But he's dead and no more can been done to him, however those that aided him, covered up, ignored the claims, would be equally as guilty.

I think it should be a lesson for the future regarding people with celebrity status.
However one of the saddest things for me, as that in the case of some other celebs found guilty of unpleasant wrongdoings, their fans continue to think that the sun shines from their backsides regardless, and even now we are seeing it to a certain extent regarding Savile.
We have also seen what happens in the US when people with celebrity status find themselves in Court.
Lets only hope it never gets to that stage in the UK.

He existed in a state of absolute impunity as shown by the police readily turning a blind eye to one admitted offence and dropping no fewer than seven seperate enquiries.

Over the past few months the police have been proved to be more corrupt than Spanish local government officials.
How can you or I or any other person have confidence in a police force that is so corrupt in its dealings with members of the public. And what did they get out of it we have to ask. Surely more than a sweat stained, used, shell suit or two.
If you or I are not above the law then "celebrity's" should also not be above the law. In fact they should be more squeeky clean than us, setting us an example in how to behave.
The BBC is going to be the next to be investigated and hopefully purged of all the people who have hidden, condoned and procured the likes of Saville - and his chums. Given them a free ride and paid out many £millions of our money for the dubious pleasure.
Coming on top of the tax fiasco this would be enough to put a normal company out of business.
And remember that what happens in the US this week will happen in the UK next week.

My guess is that what they got out of it was a quiet life,........
rather than all manner of hells fire, fury and brimstone that would have rained down upon their heads from all directions, had they ever tried to take down such a popular "do gooder" cult figure of the strength of any one particular incident.
Quite possibly that crossed a few minds within the BBC also.

You have to feel sorry for the person who bought Saviles Rolls Royce at auction recently

I saw a video of a pedophile being taken to a square in the Yemen and machine gunned once. Wasn't a pleasant watch I'll admit but the outcome made me smile.
