Also, the Cathedral of Jaen is well worth a visit if you are into that kind of thing. The country side is also very beautiful...the :Mar de Olivos"...Sea of Olive trees is mamazing. If there is time some beautiful scenery in the nearby Sierra mountains...

This province also has one of the most beautiful places of Spain, the natural park of Cazorla

I agree that Cazorla is well worth a visit, however, it may be too far off the beaten track from the original poster's destination.
Jaen must be a beautiful city from the many photos, but, sorry, haven't been there, so can not give any recommendations. I believe you can see from the main road south either the parador or perhaps a church/fortress?
If you can detour to Ubeda on your way to Jaen, it is worth the visit. There is a wealth of renaissance architecture. Just head for the main square, and sit for a moment or two, soaking up this history.
