The BBC is getting much better at disabling VPNs. Try a Smart DNS instead. I use SmartDNS Proxy and have no problems.

I have never been able to view or download video from the BBC website in all the years I've been away (admittedly I haven't tried that hard but do have a VPN).

The radio content plays and downloads perfectly though.

I did write to them recently, asking if it were possible to pay a proportionate amount of the licence fee in order to be able to access everything in iplayer. I got the standard reply "thank you, we will consider it".

Access to iPlayer will also depend on what device you are trying to access it on. Some VPNs work on some devices, others do not. But Smart DNS do seem to be more reliable.

Why would the BBC need to spend money buying rights to make all the content in iPlayer available to people outside the UK, especially when they would get no income from those expats to offset additional costs?
They did try this, an international version of the iPlayer, after hearing expats would pay for such a service, but surprise surprise the take up was not good (mainly as they could not offer all the content the uk version of i player offered due to contract rights issues from the programme makers), so they cancelled it... So they, BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm, now make some of their content available on Netflix for expats, which seems to be a good alternative for both the BBC and the viewer...(ie BBC gets a regular income, and the viewer gets a lot more for their money)

You could try https://unlocator.com/?gclid=CjwKCAj...RoCU_oQAvD_BwE (free trial). We've used this for some time.

We now use https://www.transponder.tv/

I lost iPlayer and itv hub earlier in the year as it seemed they had got round my free VPN. However few weeks later it was back working. Depending what you use to stream your TV and If you want live TV most UK channels plus more including Spanish and other channels then this may help if you use android, no VPN required

TVTap Live TV Channels

I may well give this a go...

I'll keep Nord for the usual reasons, but one issue with Nord is that each upgrade seems to knock out favourites etc.

Agree with The GUY, DNS redirect much more reliable and no download speed loss compared to VPN. For example SMART DNSPROXY less than a euro a week and you get access to a whole host of services such as BBC iPLAYER ITV HUB, c4, c5 Free. Netflix Amazon prime etc if you subscribe to them and much much more.

Can't fault that, DNS unblocker is indeed faster than VPN, but then you 'drive your own'?

Maybe ok if one is watching on a PC or tablet, whatever, I have a PC with HDMI output that I pump via an AVR to get 'decent' resolution on my very cool but non-smart 10 year old TV.

Just asking...

Not sure what you are asking? But my DNS are set in my router and all my devices unless manually over ridden by me benefit from the DNS services provided. My connection with DNS delivers a consistent 575-600 mbps download speed which is ample to service all devices and 4k oled TV streaming UHD and HDR movies and tv from netflix and amazon perfectly.

Using various VPN's as a trial on iPad Pro speeds dropped massively to under 150mbps
