Default Internet connection holiday home

Hi,

We have a holiday home in Vinaros. Actually we pay EUR 44.10 / month (4G) for a slow internet without phone.
The cheapest possibility I see is Movistar 38 EUR/ month (fibra 20 MB velocidad).
Why is internet in Spain so expensive compared with France or Portugal? Don't understand .......

I pay 25 euros per month including tax for fixed line and fibre optic wifi ( unlimited). with Winet. Local /national calls free ( except for premium rate, and calls to UK of course) I live stream football and seldom have any problems.( Eagerly awaiting the Sevilla/Betis game tomorrow!)

It depends where you are, the availability of fibre and the number of providers
We're in Alicante province and have a number of internet providers serving the village. We pay €24 for 300 Mb unlimited upload/download (600 Mb is available for the same price but I'm in contract for another couple of months).....Which is a lot cheaper than in the UK

Comparisons are futile!

Why for instance is a 13kg Butane bottle €11 or €12 in Spain whilst between €30 and €37 in France?

Why is electricity around €0.30/kWh in Germany but only €0.20 in France?

If there is a question at all it's why should anything cost the same in two countries!

BTW when in France I was paying FT something approaching €45 for a miserable 2mb internet and phone, in Spain I have 70mb up and down, phone with free calls to most of the world, and Spanish TV which includes the principal UK channels, and the cost - €33/mth.

In the UK up to last November I could get unlimited fast fibre broadband and line rental for phone and Internet for £20 per month. I think we just have to accept that generally Internet is simply more expensive in Spain. Swings and roundabouts some things cheaper some more expensive. You just have to get the best deal you can dependant upon your specific location.

In fairness, it's down to each individual what they want to pay and what the average person pays is even irrelevant within the same country. Our neighbour in Ireland is paying 60% more for broadband, although they could switch. I suppose the big issue in Spain is that it's harder to negotiate if you aren't fluent.

As an holiday home, I don't know how long you stay in your home per year.
I also have an holiday home in Catalunya. I use it 2 months a year.

For internet access, I rent a Wifi access point with Sim card, it works perfectly (limited to 300GB/month, more than enough even with Netflix!), and, even if it's quiet expansive, just for 2 months it is far less expensive than a regular internet yearly subscription.

I don't know if I can put the name of the company I use on the forum, so if interested, send me an MP.

Shocked you pay for much for so little!!!

Inpay €20 a month for 600 symmetrical speeds a month - no contract, cancel when I want.

definitely shop around, 4gb for 44€?? Tell me this is an iPhone mobile phone contract with low data hot spotting!

4g will always be an expansive solution although the OP doesn't say what their data allowance is for that, I would hope it's unlimited but I suspect not.
Slow 4g will almost certainly be due to a weak signal but that's easily fixable by choosing a router with proper antenna connections and erecting a decent antenna, or antennas, for it.

For temporary or part time use Lobster is worthy of consideration, €12/mth gets you 8gb, €18/18gb or €24/35gb, all with unlimited calls and texts to UK landlines and mobiles and a number of other countries.

No contract, pay monthly and stop it any time you like plus you can suspend and reactivate the service whenever you like with just a phone call.

All in English too.

You are probably in an area similar to us with good connectivity and plenty of competitors. In this situation the cost of fast broadband in Spain is a lot cheaper than the UK.

However, I do feel for people deep in the campo or in areas without access to fibre. We used to have Wimax before fibre was installed in the village, no complaints but only 10Mb for €24 per month. When we got the fibre, at initially 300MB, for the same price it was a no brainer.....Now at 600MB.

The thing to watch for with 4/5 G mobile is the limit for the download, not the speed. Lots of companies have a "fair use" policy or limit you to a ridiculously low amount of Gb per month.
