Default International schools in and around Malaga

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations regarding good international schools in/around Malaga (e.g. covering Benalmadena). Considering the British School of Malaga and British College Benalmadena at the moment - for my son who's in Year 3. Keen to get views from the forum regarding either of these 2 options, and any others to consider - with opinions covering quality of eductation, all-round experience, tuition expenses etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, butting in from the France forum, but this is a universal issue.
AFAIK, year 3 is in Primary School? In which case, why not send your son to the local Spanish State School where he'll have time to pick up adequate Spanish before going up to Secondary, esp. by making friends with the local children? Maybe not advisable if your stay is temporary, but recommended if you're intending to live in Spain forevermore. He'll make friends in an International School, but, by definition, "foreign" ones, all learning Spanish in class and not practising out of school.... Unless he has private tutoring, his level of Spanish wouldn't be high for some one living in the country....
Think ahead to his future - you may find that he'll want to return to the UK on leaving International School, whereas, with the Spanish Bac, a Spanish University would be more feasible.....
Just saying, a lot depends on how you see the future in 10-odd years' time....
(Take no notice if I'm wrong about "Year 3"!)

Thanks dmu.

The International School v/s Spanish State school question is one we're considering. We'd been considering the British School in Malaga favourably, however have come across negative press from a few years ago that's given some reason for doubt. Hence looking for informed perspectives on the International schools in and around Malaga.

All you can do is look in person and get a feel for yourself. Even if a few people or reviews say it's the best school ever, it doesn't necessarily mean it meets your standards. If your child doesn't feel comfortable the highest possible rating is worth nothing.
