Default international licences

hi can anyone help??? My boyfriend is buying a motorbike, and is having trouble getting insured as he has an international licence, which the companies will not accept. Does anyone know of a reputable insurance company who will accept an international licence
many thanks in advance

international licenses are only valid when supported by the license of origin (like UK). It is not a stand alone recognised license and therefore you cant get insurance on it.

he must have another license to have been able to get an international one.

or does he have endorsments on that one that he's trying to keep away from his insurance??!

The Spanish police have trouble recognizing a Euro licence so you will have big problems with an international one especially if you are living in Spain.
Like Islandmom says you also need your original licence to accompany it, and it is really for countries that are not in the EU.

He could always go to the police station and if they recognize the Qatar licence, trade it in for a Spanish licence.

This was being discussed on another forum. The Qatar licence (Non EU) cant be exchanged for a Spanish one so apparantly he will have to sit the Spanish test to get an acceptable licence here if he is becoming resident.
