But, if your affairs are complicated, acting as executor will be quite a burden and if the beneficiaries don't get on or don't trust each other, it can lead to squabbling and bad feeling. Some people nominate one beneficiary who they know would be up to the task and leave them a bit extra for their trouble but that can cause bad feeling too. But hopefully your lot are all reasonable people and get on well together.

I'm not a beneficiary of my late brothers estate but was his sole executor - absolute nightmare! Not a job that I want to undertake again any time soon.

I just read this on another forum and remembered this thread, so I nicked it to post on here.
A poster has received an update from their bank which includes the following statement:
"Closing your account: We've updated section 5 of 'Being with Barclays' ('Stopping your service or account') to explain that we can close your account if you (or someone you hold an account with) are resident outside the UK."
That may rule Barclays out, for the OP's purposes.
