Most of them will, however whether they would pay up if you had an accident, how long has the car been in Spain?

Try IBEX through Horizons Consultants CB (Jalon).

This is what we did when we arrived.

Exactly what evidence do you have for that suggestion?

There is a clause in the insurance policies for these companies that states that the vehicles MUST comply with the rules of the country in which it is being driven.
So you UK plated car . no UK tax , or no UK MOT or overstayed in the country if involved in an accident could be said to be NOT complying with the rules.
Remember it is not your friendly sales agent who agrees to settle the claim but the claims agents in an office who knows where. They are employed to pay out as little as possible.

you need to get tax and mot in uk every year keep you ferry tickets to prove this and any thing you can to say you have been back in the uk it may be worth working the cost out going back it may be cheaper changing plates over

True but there are far too many expats who think that it is Ok to drive a uk plated car, no tax no insurance etc relying on one of these policies and hard luck for those who have the misfortune to be hit by them.
If they are lucky they will still have some third party cover.

I think you will find that all policies issued in the EU carry basic third party cover, even if the policyholder lied through their teeth in the application and also the cover is there whatever the legal state of the car.

Once a policy is issued that basic third party cover is there and the insurance company cannot back out of it under any circumstances.

Incidentally, if you have a policy in Spain and are hit by an uninsured driver, then your damage/injuries will be covered by the Concorsio cover that is provided by the consortium of insurance companies. The cost of this cover is included in the cost of all Spanish insurance policies.

We took our car to be matriculated the first week of July, all went well and whole thinkg paperwork etc completed in two hours.

We've been waiting ever since to have the numberplates issued! We were informed that it would take a couple of weeks for that to work through the system (its Spain don't you know!)

So our car is in limbo, still being driven on UK plates with UK insurance but basically it is now spanish registered, but we can't get Spanish insurance until the plates are issued. All we have is an official document given to us to show Guardia should we be stopped in the meantime.

Did you do the paperwork yourselves?

Too much misinformation about insurance on forums.

Well debunked. (although it won't sway the faith of the true believers)
