it is in some ways, but if you follow the rules, take only hand luggage, then you will still pay the low prices. Yes summer is the time for family holidays, and you can't really do a family holiday with only hand luggage, so it is a way of getting more money off the passengers without increasing the flight charges.

Well exactly ...... you cant get much into one of those cabin bags. If you are going for any time more than a week, you need a suitcase. If you need a suitcase then you are being penalised big time, especially (when you think about it) its often a necessity to take a decent sized case when you travel

I recently travelled with Monarch - their rules seem to be much the same as Ryanair

Is hand baggage still free?

Yes, you can take up to 10kg of hand baggage free of charge.

Important: Any hand baggage found to exceed weight and size restrictions will be placed in the hold and hold baggage charges will be levied.

Hand baggage dimensions should not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

I have to admit I was amazed at some of the cases going into some of the overhead lockers!!

Also just noticed that you have to tick you have read and accepted their terms and conditions BEFORE they will even search for a flight!! That's new, I'm sure!! So you are screwed before you even book it now!!!
