Steve
I would also be interested in solar power but I don't understand what you mean by PV. Explain please. By the way have learnt that "higher powers" have instituted the last lot of electric cuts and that Sevillana didn't want to do them!!!!! |
Re: Info required on solar power PV type
Hi Glynis, i gather you still have not been connected then.
PV stands for photovoltaic have a look at this site it explains it alot better than i could. Its not cheap mind but with all the hassle we/you are experiencing out there it may be an option to look at if we cant get an official supply. http://www.est.org.uk/housingbuildings/funding/solarpv/ There is also i german guy/company ? that has a web site & he can install in our area & from what i believe there are EU grants available to help with the costs hope that helps cheers steve |

Don't forget small windmills, they will also generate sufficient electricity for a house. They are being used in remote parts of Scotland with similar wind conditions to CDLL might also be cost effective for you. Grants are definitely available for these alternative energy sources under EU rules. Regards, John. |

Hi John where we are a windmills arn't that useful, don't get me wrong it can be windy but being inland it can be hit & miss. That site you sent me was very useful just waiting for a reply from them

Re: Info required on solar power PV type
Hi,
Just done a short course on solar / pv, Solar is well up on efficiency now , but pv is basically still in it's infancy and will take many years to pay back, like double glazing in the 70's. Things could be changing in the next few years however as there are a few chinese factories apparently starting to produce solar/pv equipment at about a third to half price of the EU factories/producers, which will start to force prices down about 12 months to a more acceptable level, and thus give a shorter pay back time for the installation costs . Cheers Jerry |
Re: Info required on solar power PV type
Yeah cheers jerry, seems that if you want an off grid system which is what i'am after, it can cost anything up to about 25K which seems a tad expensive  even with a euro grant, looks the way to go though the way power bills seem to be heading
