Importing car

Hi all. I´ve just received an e mail from a friend who is moving permanently from the UK to Spain next month. He has very recently bought a new car in Germany(cheaper apparently) which he plans to bring to Spain. His question relates to import tax. Is he liable to pay tax on the vehicle? He initially believed that there was no import tax involved but has recently been informed that he is only exempt from import tax if he has already been resident in Spain for 6 months otherwise he has to pay a 12% import duty. He asked me for advice and as I have no idea I´m hoping someone can assist. Thank you.

Please search the forum for 'importing a car' or any such wording, this subject has been covered, in depth, and many many times.
