The original idea seems to be long gone and at least some cities like Palma are tackling the problem. I've only recently heard of Swimmy https://swimmy.es/
Basically this is the Airbnb for swimming pools and people rent out their pools. I have no idea how it works with health and safety and I can imagine the joy when your neighbour suddenly has a public swimming pool :-).

My husband likes meeting people, having more space than in a hotel room, being able to cook his own food and just experiencing life in another country when on a business trip, rather than going from hotel to meeting and vice versa. For him it's far preferable, he travels a lot on business and hates the soullessness and loneliness of hotels.

I've also used VRBO with great success..... but they do appear to be loading on the additional charges - their own service charge (over and above the cleaning charge) is a fairly new one....

My thoughts too..... one Swimmy guy was saying that he has rented his pool out to as many as 30 people from 4pm to midnight.....lovely, a public swimming pool with all the attendant noise that comes with that right next door......
