We're pretty much done with Chinese shops after some pretty bad experiences, so I agree that you shouldn't go there. There's just a very few things we might (possibly) buy. My wife wont even go in.

I think a mouse I bought at the Chinese shop blew my USB port. A power strip nearly burned down our flat! The wooden hangers we bought had mould in the joints, we came back to find our cupboard and clothes with yellow mould!!!:frown: Luckily washing got rid of it (and the smell) and disinfecting the cupboards. Lotsa hassle. Other stories too....

Maybe the supermarkets will have an IT stand? In VRSA that you like to visit on the ferry, there are some shops, a PC shop about 50-100m before the library on the same side of the road. Carrefour will, but of course you need a car or join someone going there.

Nowadays lots of stuff one buys is made in China, but at the shops you just know its poor quality, the pricing then all the costs to bring it over as well and costs to run the shop must mean its crap.

However I think the better shops have better quality. I can strongly recommend the Tecknet wireless mouse, you'll have to have a friend send it to you, but it operates over 10 metres + with a TINY receiver in the USB port. Great for watching internet TV, being a couch potato and operating the PC from the other end of the room. When you travel you put the receiven inside the battery compartment.

Good luck

Jon

Times have changed, you're now just as likely to find a made in China label on goods bought in an expensive hi-tec shop as in a Chinese Bazaar.

I bought a cheapy Chinese mouse a few years back and despite some pretty rough man-handling and an attack from the cat, it's still alive and running around my screen as fast as ever. :)

Is it a wireless mouse Val? Could it need a new battery? If it is an old wired USB 'ball' type perhaps the contacts need a clean.
