Yes, mortgage paid, kids off their hands, private pension. They can go with around £500,000 if in the South East. The younger generation want it all now. Off to Spain, bugger the kids education and blow away the little equity they have...but you only have one life don't you:rofl:

I know a million Euro gets you nowhere near that kind of preceived and portrayed lifetsyle of the super mega rich ... but in numbers? If I have 2 million Euro - am I not a millionaire?

I think as parents we have a responsibility to bring our children as best as we can and if possible help them on there way as young adults.
However after that I would have no problem spending my money if that's what I wanted to do. I just don't get people who continue to make sacrifices all of their lives to leave something to their children. I also do not think it is necessarily helpful for our children to become reliant on the Bank of Mum and Dad.
If there is anything left over when I go good but I certainly do not see that as my priority.

I think a millionaire is someone who can raise that sum from disposal assets without it affecting their lifestyle.

If it is just asset based then the SE must have tens of thousands of millionaires.

I'm really interested in this kind of question because I want to know what it is like in countries other than where I now live. I only know for sure what it is like here (Turkey), and to be frank it seems very much the same as in Spain from what @TheLostPhotogapher says.
It is really good and descriptive post from apparent personal experience, rather than other comments which seem to be anecdotal.

Turkey is outside of the EU and getting a job here is really difficult unless you are prepared to work illegally. From all I have seen in this thread and elsewhere, I can't see the difference or advantage with an EU country given the present problems.
What I mean is that unless you have independent means, it doesn't matter too much where you go, you will struggle to survive. People from other countries believe the UK is the land of milk and honey, yet people from the UK are looking elsewhere for the same.
I try to explain to Turkish people who want to go to the UK that the council tax alone there is more than all their combined bills here, but they only see the size of the wage packet, not what they have to do with it.

IMHO to migrate for economic reasons from one European country to another will not be successful if you need to work. The grass is no greener on the other side. But if you are doing it for lifestyle reasons that is something else.
