A hotel in Tenerife we visited seemed to have found a solution. In the back of every chair/sunbed was a pocket and everyone received a printed card with their name and dates of arrival and departure on it. The cards were placed in the back of any chairs without cards and as people left, they could ‘upgrade’ their chairs by replacing their cards. Everyday the staff went round removing cards of guests who had left. We managed to move from back row to front row in two days. Yes it still meant that chairs were reserved all day often with no- one in them but it seemed to work.

Interesting….. I guess there can’t be many hotels that have the same number of beds as guests though ?

Im currently based in UAE and regularly travel here or from here and it’s not a problem I have come across recently. I e only encountered it in Europe. One hotel that we visit in Abu Dhabi that only has a small pool and limited beds …. The pool guys remove possessions from any beds left empty for more than 90mins , it’s very clearly communicated and seems to work.

Strange as it seems some people don’t want a sunbed near a pool but are happy to have one elsewhere.
